Ex-GUANO APES Singer SANDRA NASIC: Video Interview Available
November 8, 2007Holland's FaceCulture recently spoke to Sandra Nasic, the former lead singer of the German rock band GUANO APES. Watch the interview at this location.
Sandra Nasic released her solo debut, "The Signal", on September 28 via G.U.N./Supersonic Records.
Said Nasic: "To have my own record is, of course, really cool at first! It's also very important to me for now.
"I didn't really think too much about the album title. It just popped up at some point. I knew in any case that the record would be called 'The Signal'. I guess it's probably the signal that I gave myself somewhere along the way.
"I just tried everything on the album. I've got some songs on it that are more in an electronic direction, others that are more hard rock, and I also have pop songs, so there's no real specific direction. I consciously took this liberty because I'm sick of only belonging to one certain genre. In the long run, that wears you out.
"The record features a few songs that are important to me — not all of them, but there are a few. For instance, 'Right Lane' was one of the first songs that I wrote back then with Christian Neander. It's about the exact moment where I could feel the music again, because for a while that just wasn't the case. In that song I was back on the right track."
GUANO APES was one of Germany's most successful bands both domestically and abroad for more than a decade. In 2000, the band won the MTV Award for "Best German Act" and went on to win countless other awards, including the Echo, the Viva Comet, the 1LIVE Krone and the IFPI award for over one million sales of the APES' debut, "Proud Like a God". All three of the band's studio albums attained gold status, while their singles landed regularly in the Top 10 of the German charts.
